Life is beautiful in Arezzo
Arezzo and its Piazza Grande, the center of the city, were the set in 1997 of some of the scenes of the film by Roberto Benigni, "Life is beautiful".
Walking through the streets of the historic city, some posters allow emotion to relive the scenes of the film that won three Oscar nominations receiving 7 Academy Awards. The Tuscan director Roberto Benigni was in fact named the best actor and the film also received the award for best foreign film and for best soundtrack to Nicola Piovani.
Turned between November 1996 and April 1997 and came out in Italian cinemas, in 1997 and a year after "Life is Beautiful" was shown in American cinemas. The success of Tuscan Benigni was immediate.
On 10 January 1999 the Pope John Paul II sees the film privately with the director, still incredulous and excited, during a private screening.
Triumphantly welcomed the grand jury prize at Cannes, received other international awards, about 40, including 5 silver ribbons and the prestigious César.
