The Saracino battle
The Giostra del Saracino, a typical medieval game ot the city of Arezzo, originated in the thirteenth century.
It is revived every year in the Piazza Grande in Arezzo on the penultimate Saturday of the month of June, at night, and the first Sunday of September in the afternoon.
In the historical re-enactment you can admire about 300 extras that parade through the streets of the Old Town accompanied by the noble knights of the families that represent the 4 districts challengers: Porta Crucifera, Portadel Foro, Porta Sant'Andrea and Porta Santo Spirito.
The parade is preceded by the performance of the group of flag wavers and the roll of drums announcing the entrance of the procession into the square.
Each jousters has a spearwalnut, and as the field marshal launches its signal, ride in an oblique line along the Piazza Grande vie, crashed through the sieve in order to achieve the highest score.
