As concerns agriculture, tobacco is grown extensively, as the area in Valtiberina is where the Italian cultivation started and became famous worldwide.
This area is also where a productive industrial activity started a long time ago, specialising mainly in the food and textile sectors. Prestigious brands have expanded from here: Buitoni, for example, was founded in Sansepolcro in the first half of the nineteenth century.
